Rhenium
Rhenium: a Precious and Exotic Metal
From the beginning of the bronze age, metals have been an integral part of man's everyday life. Since that time, more and more alloys have been produced and continuously improved: Iron succeeded bronze, iron was turned into steel.
For use under extreme conditions – for instance in aircraft engines or power station turbines – metallurgists developed "Super-alloys": nickel or cobalt-based high-performance alloys containing rhenium.
Super-alloys excel through high mechanical strength as well as high resistance to corrosion and temperature stability. These properties are due, in part, to the use of the metal rhenium.
Heraeus has already been processing rhenium on an industrial scale for decades. This was supported by our longstanding experience in the treatment of special and precious metals.
At Heraeus Rhenium is obtained in the form of a high-purity ammonium tetraoxorhenate(VII) (“APR”), which is turned into rhenium powder and then into solid pellets by pressing and sintering.
Heraeus is your reliable and long-term partner for rhenium in the alloying industry.
Also for petrochemistry Heraeus has been an established supplier of Re compounds, e.g. ammonium tetraoxorhenate(VII) ("Ammonium Perrhenate", “APR”) and hydroxotrioxorhenium(VII) solution ("Perrhenic Acid", “PRA”). For example, rhenium is a co-metal in reforming and ethylene oxide cataysts. Our strength is the manufacture of high-purity compounds according to customers’ specifications.
Besides rhenium products, our Chemical Products business unit also offers to source the required rhenium metal.
We look forward to your enquiries and are at your disposal at any time.
Our company also offers you the recovery of rhenium from spent catalysts and alloys. For this, please, visit the web page of our Recycling business unit.
